Exploring Krakow, Poland
Have you tried these hidden gems in Kraków?
Working with an outstanding tour guide at Private Tours Kraków (he holds a Ph.D. in tourism!), I have learned about some of the top restaurants in Kraków, so thought I would share the spots the locals love:
Szara Ges: Described on google maps as: ‘Traditional fare served in a restored 13th-century home with a vaulted Gothic-style dining room’, it is on the south end of the main square. The building is beautiful, the menu is creative and their signature dessert, Egg in a Nest, is amazing! Don’t miss! link to google
Miód Malina: Google describes this as spot as an ‘Intimate restaurant with folksy decor including lace-covered hand-painted dressers & rustic wreaths’. It is about two blocks south of the square, on the main road down to Wawel castle. A pretty, cultural peek into Polish decor, the menu is delicious. link to google
Klezmer Hois: Described on klezmer.pl: Klezmer-Hois (The House of the Klezmer) is an exceptional restaurant situated in the 14th century building, once a ritual bathhouse, 100 meters from the Remuh Synagogue. Its culinary offer as well as the décor and artistic atmosphere evoke the ambience of the pre-war Jewish Kazimierz. Klezmer-Hois is not only a restaurant but also a cozy bookshop with a wide range of books, notebooks, maps, posters and stationary products designed and published by Austeria Publishing. restaurant website here
* Bottigliera 1881 Restaurant: Michelin- Starred! This is the only restaurant, as of the end of 2021, with a Michelin star, in Kraków. Well known for its extensive wine offerings, the chef has been here since 2013, when he returned to his hometown to leave a mark on the cuisine scene. restaurant website here
Galicjska Restaurant: As described on GoogleMaps, ‘classic dishes from the region of Galicia, served in brick-walled, candlelit cellar rooms’. This is a personal favorite, discovered accidentally one cold evening- the food is traditional, from the Galicjya region in southeastern Poland/western Ukraine, and the atmosphere is incredible, in the brick cellar. I was enraptured! restaurant website here
I encourage you to spend a few minutes just looking at these beautiful dining rooms- while writing this and looking at the websites, I decided all 5 are my most favorite, thanks to the beautiful settings!
